Overnight Trips

Come Join us…

Our athletes always say that weekend and overnight trips are the highlight of their summers! Here is the list below. These are open to paddlers that can meet the level of each trip and past kayak club athletes. Reach out to the director@jhkayakclub.org with any questions.

Advanced Adventure Trip: 8/17-8/21 Monday-Friday

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION This program focuses on building upon the skills learned in previous intermediate and advanced programming courses. The Adventure Trip will provide athletes with the opportunity to continue mastering advanced whitewater kayaking skills: surfing, river safety, and environmental exploration. With a combination of kayaking in Teton County and rivers in different states, athletes will gain first hand experience in trip planning, logistics, decision making strategies, and safety protocols which will be put into practice over the course of the week. This week will combine two days of Teton Valley kayaking to refine specific skills before a three day trip outside of the valley. The traveling location will be determined as water levels and appropriate river venues are more clear.

Weekend Trips

Henry’s Fork: 6/25-6/28

This weekend trip will allow intermediate and advanced athletes to spend more time on a river well beloved by JHKC athletes and alumni. Athletes and coaches alike will spend the weekend on the Henry’s Fork river in western Idaho and paddle class III and introductory class IV whitewater. Athletes will also have the opportunity to camp with their coaches and friends in an environment removed from the hustle and bustle of Jackson Hole. This trip will prioritize the exploratory aspect of whitewater kayaking while focusing on river and camp safety, community, and relationship building, and self-accountability over the duration of a weekend.

Gallatin Whitewater Festival: 6/27-6/28

This weekend trip is associated with Spring Paddling and will allow athletes to showcase their skills in a competitive atmosphere while supporting the Wave Train Kayak Team. While representing the JHKC, athletes will directly support another whitewater kayaking program in the west.

Explorers Plan: 7/10-7/12

This weekend trip is designed to allow our advanced athletes an opportunity to design their own weekend trip. Athletes will work collaboratively to decide a location, menu, transportation plan, safety protocol, and paddling schedule. As the JHKC’s advanced paddlers, athletes will be taught and then execute the key components of a traveling kayaking trip under the guidance of JHKC coaches. Coaches will maintain ultimate control, judgment, and decision making power while allowing athletes to develop and successfully implement their weekend trip plan. The specific location of this trip will be determined by athletes and coaches in collaboration as water levels and appropriate venues are more clear.

Wild West River Fest: 8/7-8/9

This weekend trip to Cody, Wyoming will allow athletes to compete in kayak slalom and downriver races in a formalized competition setting. This trip allows athletes to compete against a community of peers from another whitewater kayaking program, develop competition strategies, and represent the Jackson Hole Kayak Club over the course of a competition weekend.
