Program Description
This program is designed for young paddlers with previous experience either in the Muskrats or Beavers or some whitewater kayaking expereince. This program focuses on the river and moving water conditions with some flat water time as well. Students in this program need to be comfortable with the wet exit and swimming in the river. These participants will focus on mastering the eddy turn and peel out, building upon the skills learned in the Muskrat program. As always, there is an emphasis on fun and safety, as well as the progression from flat water to moving water. We will focus on Flat Creek, flat water sections of the Snake River, and the Hoback River. Please note that all Beavers have spent at least 3 sessions paddling as Muskrats (1 or 2 years).
Specific Skills Focus
On-water safety; exiting a kayak with a skirt; edge control & boat stability; proper paddle strokes; eddy turns to enter/exit a river current; river features; swimming in moving water; mechanics of rolling (hip snaps, T-rescues, body & paddle position)
PROGRAM FEE - INCLUDES USE OF KAYAK, PADDLE, SPRAYSKIRT, HELMET, SPLASH JACKET AND PFD
